PROTECT YOURSELF! Blood Sucking Bugs are Infesting Your Yard and Home!

Mosquito Biting

Do you ever start to get itchy on your arm or leg and look down to find out that you’ve just been bitten by one of the most annoying bugs?! The scratching, the itching, the swelling. Great Googlymoogly! There are few things more aggravating than being bit by a mosquito, especially the ones that you just cannot seem to get rid of.

Say ADIOS to your mosquito problems as we explore their behaviors and things you can do to get rid of those irritating bugs.

Mosquitoes don’t have a long lifespan, but that doesn’t mean that one mosquito can’t make a big difference. Female mosquitoes typically only live for a couple of weeks, (thank goodness!) but over their lifespan they can lay up to a thousand eggs. Their only purpose is to feed on blood in order for their eggs to develop. Once they have all the nutrients from their blood sources (aka, us) they are drawn to water sources, and lay their eggs in the water.  One of the worst things about mosquitoes are the diseases that they carry and can give you. Some of the diseases that are present in mosquitoes in Arizona are:

  • Chagas
  • Chikungunya
  • Dengue
  • Lyme Disease
  • Malaria
  • Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever
  • West Nile Virus
  • Yellow Fever
  • Zika

Typically mosquitoes die in colder weather, but we, in Arizona, don't have that luxury. It's important for us to always be aware of the bugs around us and the threat that they present against us, all year round.

 How to Protect Yourself

Now, you must be thinking, how can I get these terrible bugs out of my home and yard?! There are some things that you can do, in addition to a pest control service, that can help control the amount of mosquitoes that you are having to deal with.

Mosquitoes are drawn to sitting water because that is where they lay their eggs. Don’t let them turn your yard into their personal breeding grounds and make sure to dump out any standing water.

  • Lids of tubs
  • Old dog bowls
  • Buckets in the yard
  • Saucer underneath plants
  • Tarps
  • Stagnant fountain or pond
  • Discarded tires (these are the WORST)

Especially with the monsoon season coming up, it is super easy for these types of things to go unnoticed in your yard, so it is definitely worth your time to get rid of the standing water in your yard.

To keep from getting bit, here are some methods to minimize your exposure:

  • Wearing the right colors
    • Mosquitoes are attracted to some colors including black, red, and dark blue. Do your best to avoid wearing these colors in order to not get bit as much!
  • Avoid smelly lotions, deodorant, and perfumes
    • Mosquitoes use vision and scent to detect their victims (us), and putting on some smelly products draws them right to us.
  • Avoid drinking beer
    • Strongly related to smell is what you eat or drink. Among these foods and drinks that draw mosquitos in is drinking beer.

How to Eliminate them from Your Home

But eliminating the threat from your yard is a whole 'nother story. There is only so much that you can do on your own to get rid of mosquitoes without a pest control license.  Green Machine has the right products and equipment to give you confidence when you decide to throw your 4th of July BBQ this year.

We offer a fogging treatment that provides a more immediate result as it gets micro amounts of product in places that our general pest control can not reach. Some of those places include the eaves, leaves, bushes, and up in the trees. The product gets in those hard to reach places that the mosquitoes frequent, killing them very quickly. We call this an "Instant Knockdown."

You also need something for the long term. Green Machines mosquito traps draw the mosquitoes in with a fragrant water where they lay their eggs and in return, they get the product on their legs which begins the dying process. As they leave and go to other water sources, they carry that product with them and infect the new water source with the product. The product draws mosquitoes in, and makes them a catalyst for infecting other water sources while also killing the larvae and mosquito. One mosquito trap can infect the water sources, even those we cannot see, for 400 square feet around it.

Wanna throw a BBQ this summer?  Or enjoy watching your kids play in the pool? Or just mow the grass without getting eaten alive? Whether you need a quick fix, or a long term solution, we are here to help!! Call today for your free quote, and take back your yard! (480) 331-1009
