Ginormous Beetles Digging Holes All Over Yards!

Have you ever noticed large pencil-sized holes around the base of your home or around your yard? It could be gophers, ground squirrels, moles, or even beetles! It sounds too ridiculous to be true, but it is! During monsoon season here in Arizona, we are greeted by the Palo Verde or “Monsoon” beetle.

The Palo Verde Beetle is a very large, black beetle that comes out of its larvae state when we get lots of rain. Their eggs are laid in the soil and as they emerge, they are attracted to wet areas and airflow. So check around your rain gutter downspout and condensation drip lines from your AC unit, anywhere that holds water near your sprinklers like under doormats or plastic tubs, and all doorways (including the roll up garage door). Hence, the large holes around the base of your home and yard!

These beetles are about 3-4 inches in length, and feed off of other smaller insects as well as different types of tree roots. Although they are scary and can invade your space, the only real threat that they could pose is to trees. They sometimes feed off of the woody parts of tree roots, so it is important to take preventative measures to protect your yard and plants.

Our General Pest Control service at Green Machine does just that. We treat around the base of the home and yard, 3 feet high and 3 feet wide.
