Cinder Block Wall of Death! You Are Drawing the Killers to Your Home!

Living in the desert comes with many joys including the wildlife that we are surrounded with. One of those joys is the insect with large pinchers, 8 legs, and venom that can kill. A scorpion. Unbeknownst to you, there may be several things that you are doing that draws them to your property and home. Here’s some mistakes you may be making:

  • Scorpions Love Moisture
    • Scorpions can actually go a very long time without eating, however they need a constant source of water. As a result, if they can’t find a constant source of water, they usually don’t stay very long. There can be many different sources of water that you are unknowingly supplying to the scorpions. Drawing them to your property. Inviting them to stay.
    • Here are the top 6:
      • Leaking hose
      • Broken sprinkler or over-watering your lawn
      • Standing water (a kiddie pool or bucket)
      • Broken pipe or leak inside the home
      • Wet Concrete under pool storage boxes
      • Wet towels on the ground or pool deck (always hang them up! Even inside)
  • Scorpion Food: Other insects drawing them to your property
    • Scorpions can go up to a year without eating, but when they’re hungry…THEY’RE HUNGRY! There may be several types of bugs in your home that are drawing the scorpions in. Some of those bugs include crickets, roaches, spiders, earwigs. These bugs may be inside your home without you even realizing it. Scorpions have little hairs on their pinchers that feel the smallest vibrations from other bugs nearby. So even if you don’t know other bugs are there, the scorpions are definitely aware of them.
    • Another thing to look out for is decaying leaves underneath bushes. The crickets are really attracted to the dying leaves that pile up underneath the bushes and as such, the scorpions will follow them.
  • Structures that invite them to nest (small dark spaces) One thing that you probably didn’t knowabout scorpions, is that they can fit anywhere that you can slide a credit card.Along with this, scorpions feel more secure when there is something touching their belly and their back at the same time. Here are some places they love:
    • Cinder block walls

    • In the walls
      • They will go underneath the bottom edge of the Stucco and get up into the walls and then follow the pipes where they can feel airflow. (most of the time they are within ten feet of a pipe that came out of the wall)
